  • One of our city’s vineyard’s @constantiaglen Viticulturist, Etienne Southey and Lambert have reflected on the #harvest 2020 season, here’s what Etienne had to say. ‘The most incredible aspect of the #2020 harvest is how everything and everyone came together in the end. It was a tough growing season with early summer rains that we had in October 2019, resulting in some disease pressure from downy mildew. But with a rigorous fungicidal spray program and a dry ripening season that followed (from December 2019 through to April 2020) allowed for extended hang time of the grapes, giving us more concentrated berries and the optimal weather conditions throughout the ripening period have us further leeway to pick the grapes at optimal ripeness. Once the lockdown commenced, the biggest stress was having enough hands to pick the remaining grapes. Everyone living on the farm really came together, stepped up to the plate and helped out wherever the help was needed, all in high spirits. We managed to get the job done swiftly and had fun doing it, just in time to enjoy the long Easter weekend. All in all, it was a challenging summer growing season but a stunning quality harvest season with some obvious Covid related challenges, but fortunately these did not have an impact on the quality of our 2020 grapes’ 🐑 ‘Baaaah, what he said’ 🍇 @constantia_wine_route @constantia_valley
