Back in the 1990’s the featured race on the VOB Constantia Valley running calendar was a 21km road race.
All of that changed in 2004 when the VOB Chairman at the time, Dr. Joe Tyrell saw his idea of the 21km race being held across wine farms of the magnificent region come to fruition. Since then the Constantia Valley Farms and the KWAY VOB Running Club have developed the idea so that it now includes a 14km race and a 5km fun run.
The 21km race is tough and challenging even for the best in the field as it leads the fit and fearless runners up and across the farms of Groot Constantia, Klein Constantia, Buitenverwachting and Constantia Uitsig. The effort is worth it though as runners realise once they reach the highest points and look out over the Constantia Valley below.
The 14km race follows most of the route but only includes the lower sections of the vineyards thus cutting off the hillier and more challenging parts. It is however, an ideal opportunity to be able to run amongst the picturesque vineyards of the Constantia Valley Wine Region and more suited to newer runners or those coming back from injury..
Race day for 2015 is on Sunday the 18th of October with the Half Marathon commencing at 6:30 am, the 14km at 7:00 am and the 5km family fun run at 7:45 am.
